The Zamfara state Anti-Thuggery Committee  has arrested 32 suspects for alleged violation of the state government’s anti-thuggery order.

This was made known to newsmen in Gusau by the Chairman of the Committee, Bello Bakyasuwa, while parading the suspects, adding that,  the suspects were arrested during a rally organised by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to welcome its gubernatorial candidate for allegedly violating Executive Order No. ll.

According to him,  the anti-thuggery order was given by Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state to promote peace and stability in the state.

The commitee chairman added that, the suspects were arrested for possession of weapons, vandalism and destruction of public property as well as disturbing public peace during the rally.

He further disclosed that one among the suspects was arrested for burning a vehicle belonging to Zamfara state government.

Bakyasuwa however said that, some of the suspects were caught holding AK-47 riffles as well as locally-fabricated ones.

According to him, they  recovered vehicles loaded with the political thugs holding dangerous weapons, including guns and cutlasses, among others.

The committee chairman added that the suspects would be handed over to relevant security agencies for further investigation.

He decried what he called the unlawful activities of a certain vigilante group which, he said, were fueling political violence in the state.

Bakyasuwa called on the youth to desist from any form of political thuggery and drug abuse.

He also warned political parties and politicians against using youths for thuggery.
